What It Is

GeniusMapping is a methodology for capturing the implicit expertise of top performers and making it explicit. It grew out of expert systems from the 1980s combined with Neuro-Linguistic Programming's understanding of human belief structures.

The result: a structured representation of how an expert actually makes decisions — not how they think they make decisions, not how they describe themselves, but the real decision map underneath everything they do.

How It Works

The process involves:

  1. Modeling — observing and eliciting decision structures from experts
  2. Mapping — organizing those decisions into transferable frameworks
  3. Transferring — creating learning experiences that transmit the expertise

Why It Matters

Most expertise transfer fails because the expertise is unconscious. A skilled professional can look at a situation and know exactly what to do, but can't explain why. GeniusMapping cracks that by modeling the decision structures that make expert performance look effortless.

The framework captures expertise as:

  • If-then decision rules — the logic that guides expert choices
  • Normalized belief structures (NBS) — patterns of belief that shape interpretation
  • Belief clouds — collections of interacting NBS that form a complete expert model
